BARNES SCHOOL
Dear Students,
“When you do what you can;
God will do what you can’t”.
An unbelievable story of determination and effort:
Wilma Rudolph was born prematurely and was struck by polio. Doctor’s told her mother she wouldn’t walk. Her mother learnt of a doctor who treated polio-stricken patients, eighty kilometers from her house. She took her there twice a week for treatment and after two years she could walk with crutches. By the age of 12 she walked without crutches, and at the age of 16 she won a bronze medal in the 1956 Olympics. In the 1960 Olympics, Wilma became the first American woman to win 3 gold medals.
I give you this story to show you that nothing is impossible, if you have the ‘RIGHT ATTITUDE, BELIEF IN YOURSELF AND PUT IN THE EFFORT’. You are in the midst of your Prelims and moving towards the board exams in March 2011. Your parents have ensured that you are studying in one of the best schools in our region, and have spent a lot in terms of time, energy and money to see you get a good education. Now it’s your turn to show that they have invested wisely. All that you have to do to repay the love and sacrifice of your parents is ‘GET A GOOD RESULT, AND BE A GOOD HUMAN BEING’. Is that too much they are asking for?
I’ve heard from a few parents in my meetings with them in the last few days that their children say they will study for the boards, but my dear students ‘IF YOU ARE WAITING FOR THE RIGHT TIME TO START, LET ME TELL YOU THAT IT WILL NEVER COME’. “THE POINT IS YOU HAVE TO START NOW’.
Some steps to success:
- Decide what you want.
- Set a deadline
- Make a list of things you’ll need to do.
- Take action immediately.
- Persist till you make it. DO NOT QUIT.
You must remember students, “You are today where your thought and attitude have brought you. You will be tomorrow where your thoughts and attitude take you.” It was Robert Ingersoll who said; “In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments; only consequences”.
Your parents, the school and teachers have done everything to ensure you do well in academics, as well as in life. Now the onus lies with you. You are the architect of Your success. It is all up to you to succeed or fail. We are always there to guide and help you if you need it.
